Hotel La Fortezza is really close to the exhibition and conference area in Florence, which, with its 3 buildings Fortezza da Basso, the Conference Building, and Palazzo degli Affari affords an incredible complex of 100,000 m2. It is the ideal location to organize exhibitions, shows, conferences and meetings, and each year it hosts national and international events like the unmissable Pitti Immagine.

Located just 15 minutes on foot from our hotel Accademia Gallery in Florence is famous because it houses the most beautiful sculptures by Michelangelo. Built to house the original David, which was transferred here in 1873, it boasts other important works of art such as “I Prigioni” and “San Matteo”. In the museum and annexed buildings there are also extraordinary paintings dating back to the period between 1200 and 1500 as well as an important collection of Medici and Lorena musical instruments.

Designed during the Renaissance by Vasari and Buontalenti, the Uffizi building was turned into a museum in 1581, and today with nearly 5,000 works of art it is the most important gallery in Italy and one of the most renowned in the world. The building also houses a superb collection of inestimable works of art that come mostly from the Medici Family collections, which have been enriched over the centuries by bequests, exchanges, and donations. Here you can see the most important works by artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Botticelli, Cimabue, Giotto, Raffaello, Titian, Tintoretto, and many more besides.

A short walk from Hotel La Fortezza will lead you to the monumental Piazza Duomo which is dominated by the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, one of the most beautiful Gothic Renaissance churches in Europe, which is capped by the Brunelleschi dome. The Giotto Bell Tower, with its amazing multi-coloured marble, and the Baptistery of Saint John make this square a fascinating place and a must for everyone.

The Ponte Vecchio is characterized by numerous goldsmith’s and jeweller’s workshops and by the suggestive view of the city that overlooks the slow flowing Arno River. When you cross the bridge, less than 500 m away, you will reach the entrance of the splendid Boboli Gardens, which are announced by the shape of the princely Palazzo Pitti, the prestigious site of the Modern Art Gallery and of the Palatina Gallery.

The San Lorenzo Central Market is a glass and iron building which houses the city market. It has an upper floor where wonderful stalls of flowers, fruit, and vegetables are exposed to the light that pours through the skylights; the ground floor is dedicated to the enchanting flavours of the Tuscan cuisine: prized oil, wine from the Chianti hills, ham and salami and pecorino cheese are just some of the delicacies that are on sale.
