If you happen to be in downtown Florence, maybe during a relaxing afternoon spent shopping along via Tornabuoni, do not forget to stop in one of the pastry shopsaround Piazza Duomo: you will taste truly delicious regional products such as the cantucci (typical almond cookies), the schiacciata con l’uva (traditional Tuscan bread made with grapes) and the cenci, a fantastic fritter covered with powdered sugar.
The Ponte Vecchio (or Old Bridge) is characterised by the numerous gold and jewellery shops and by the striking image of the city following the slow movements of the Arno river. Crossing the bridge, at less than 500 metres, you reach the entrance of the splendid Giardino di Boboli (Boboli Gardens) noticing first the outline of the princely Palazzo Pitti, prestigious location of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna (Modern Art Gallery) and Palatina Gallery.
By car. In proximity of Florence get off at the toll booth of Firenze nord, follow the directions for centro città/stazione dei treni/Fortezza da Basso (city centre/train station/da Basso Fortress), once you reach the fortress get on the ring road of viale Strozzi, after travelling about 600 metres take the third exit on the right (a small street after the bus-stop), you will see a parking area, towards the end of the parking area you will reach viale Milton; at n. 95 Hotel Fortezza welcomes you.
By train. The train station of Santa Maria Novella is 1 km from the hotel. We recommend that you take bus n. 13, 4 and 28 leaving from the station’s square, get off at the first stop, the one of the “Fortezza”, on the right you will find viale Milton where at n. 95 Hotel Fortezza welcomes you. A taxi service is also available.
By plane. The airport “Amerigo Vespucci” is 10 km from downtown Florence. From the airport take the shuttle bus “Vola in Bus” that will take you to the train station of Santa Maria Novella, from here follow the directions under item “By train”.
